Visit Banaue Rice Terraces

By far, most visitors arrive at the Banaue Rice Terraces by bus from Manila. Although the journey takes close to eight hours, the road is mostly in a good condition and the views are spectacular.

Driving from Manila is another option. Driving the 350km from Manila, you travel through the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Nueva Viscaya to San Jose City. Pause for lunch and continue on through Dalton Pass to Bagabag where the spectacular mountains and rivers of Ifugao land first appear.

If you arrive in the Philippines through Clark Airport, it is best to take a bus to Baguio City. At the Baguio bus terminal there will be regular buses to Banaue.

Getting Around

If hiking through the rice terraces is not for you but you would like to explore the area more, perhaps a hire-car excursion to the town of Sagada, about three hours away, would be the best option. The Igarot people don't so much as bury their dead as file them away in limestone caves and crevices in mountain sides near the town.
